To mark the end of 2018, The Rave Exchange is travelling the world to reflect on the year of a series of DJs and Producers from every corner of the planet. From summer memories to personal achievements – we dig deep into the past 12 months and discuss future plans of some of our favourite emerging talents.
Artist Name: Mateo Paz
Highlight of 2018: Abu Dhabi/Dubai residency as a DJ, performing in LA and working on sample pack on Native Instruments platform.
Happy memory from this summer: Performing in LA, where I’ve never played before. People’s reactions are an endless source of a good vibe and a motivation to keep me going.
Happy memory from this winter: Given that actual winter has been with me for just one day, I think this is yet to come! The most difficult thing you’ve done this year I had to sell my stationary DJ and studio equipment due to travelling. I really loved working with that equipment but moving 130kg around is really a lot of a hassle. Customs procedures are often complex and time-consuming and didn’t fit into my lifestyle. I’m a future nomad.
This time last year you were… Abu Dhabi – mostly
Your new year’s resolution last year: To work on my physical balance, pay more attention to the food I eat, find time for a workout when travelling and to drink less alcohol (this is a must on my every new year’s resolution list)
How long did it last? I think I did very well and was consistent the whole year in my plans.
Your new year’s resolution this year: Less alcohol (as usual), make new friends, see new places and keep working on my recognisability. I would say the same as last year, but also to improve my career, improve finances and make new friends.
How long is it going to last? I hope I will stay consistent like last year and work on the mentioned things above through the whole of next year.
Your musical goal for 2019? Conquer Asia musically.
A new skill or hobby you’d like to get into? Learn to play the guitar. I hope I’ll find some time for it in 2019.
Your dream Christmas present? Peace and harmony around me. It’s the greatest gift you can get.
Favourite festive food: I love fish soup, but only at Christmas.
Your NYE plans: Private party in my hometown.
Public figure of the year: Elon Musk for doing absurd things for weird reasons like sending a car into space!
Movie/TV show of the year: Movie of the year for me is Bohemian Rhapsody and TV series has to be The Protector
Artist or label to watch in 2019: You should definitely check out Cristoph.
Song of the year that you were involved with: Eddie Amador, Mateo Paz, Dezarate – Feel Alright
Song of the year that you were not involved with: CamelPhat & Cristoph – Breathe (ft. Jem Cooke)
Something you learned in 2018: Working in various places around the world gave me an opportunity to meet many interesting people and learn from different cultures and religions.
A prediction about the world in 2019: It will be fun!
And lastly, your favourite Christmas song: Billy Mack – ‘Christmas Is All Around’ from Love Actually.
