End Of Year Review 2018 with Megan Kashat

To mark the end of 2018, The Rave Exchange is travelling the world to reflect on the year of a series of DJs and Producers from every corner of the planet. From summer memories to personal achievements – we dig deep into the past 12 months and discuss future plans of some of our favourite emerging talents.

Artist Name: Megan Kashat

Highlight of 2018: Highlight of 2018 was getting in touch with one of my favourite artists in the world, and having the opportunity to write and work with him.

Happy memory from this summer: Cross-country road trip to Los Angeles!

Happy memory from this winter: I’m really not a winter girl.

This time last year you were… Flying to Los Angeles for a spiritual retreat that changed my life. Your new year’s resolution last year: Hard to explain, it was a religious goal and a mental state I wanted to achieve. How long did it last? It’s irreversible, so it will last for eternity.

Your new year’s resolution this year: This year I want to start dancing again. Since I got into music I really don’t dance that much anymore, and I’m missing it. So this year I’m making a definite effort to get back in the dance studio and begin training again.

How long is it going to last? I will probably never stop. Dancing is a really personal thing for me.

Your musical goal for 2019: I definitely want certain collaborations I’m working on to manifest. You know it’s like a trial stage in the beginning and then when you have a good thing going, you continue so it takes time and dedication before anything is certain or guaranteed. I also want to get in the hands of a really great label and management team and begin touring again. I trust 2019 is going to be a beautiful year for my music endeavours.

A new skill or hobby you’d like to get into: Learn more languages. Being born in America I am very spoiled because English is the universal language, but I want to be able to accommodate other cultures.

Your dream Christmas present: My own recording studio… in Dubai. Nothing too serious.

Favourite festive food: Sushi is my all time favourite.

Your NYE plans: I’ll be writing music or probably recording. Work doesn’t really stop for the holidays, because my type of work is like a holiday every day. I truly love what I do; I don’t ever feel the need to retreat from it.

Public figure of the year: Donald Trump. I probably just lost some fans for that…

Movie/TV show of the year: I saw this movie on Netflix called The Angel. I don’t know if it came out this year, but it was so beautiful.

Artist or label to watch in 2019: Nina Abdelmalak. Most beautiful Arabic singer I’ve ever heard. She really inspires me.

Song of the year that you were involved with: A song I did with my friend Burak Cilt. It’s called Garden of Ecstasy. Not out yet, but I’m most proud of this work I did with him.

Song of the year that you were not involved with: Edward Maya – ‘Harem’

Something you learned in 2018: I learned to really have a clear understanding with the people I work with. Sometimes certain conversations are hard to confront and grow uncomfortable, but it’s better than avoiding it only to be disappointed later. Also, don’t tell anyone outside of the project what you’re doing. Just work in silence.

A prediction about the world in 2019: Some people will still suck.

And lastly, your favourite Christmas song: Christmas Eve/Sarajevo by the Trans- Siberian Orchestra
