Interview: Behind the scenes of ‘Landing’ with Trunks

Trunks is a name on everyone’s lips at the moment with his exquisite releases and even better DJ skills. After moving to LA to pursue his career Trunks has gone on to dominate the LA club circuit and has racked up over half a million plays on his SoundCloud with is previous releases and ‘Landing’ is no exception. Find out some behind the scenes info in our interview with Trunks below.

1. What was the inspiration behind ‘Landing’?

Leaving someone and realizing that you can’t get over them, I feel like we all have had that one special someone that creeps up in our mind sometimes.

2. What plugins did you use to create this track?

Mainly I used Omisphere 2 and Alchemy for this one, I had a few sounds from Serum that I eventually took out after I heard the final mix down.

3. How long did it take you to make ‘Landing’?

I’d say about a week as far as just production of it and add on another two weeks for the vocals to come together.

4. How does this production compare to your other work?

I love the direction of this track; a lot of stuff that I make is really for jumping around and headbanging. This one speaks to another side of creativity, from a much softer side.

5. Do you ever struggle with writer’s block and if so how do you overcome it?

Yes, I do and my method is just stepping away and playing video games. I normally have Madden or Red Dead 2 going on in the background. I try not to force things because that is when things go downhill in my opinion.

6. Is there a meaning behind the title of this track?

Landing for me would represent the feeling of calming down from all of the crazy nights out, dating or partying and just coming to terms with your reality.

7. Do you often seek advice on your work before releasing anything?

Yeah, I have a team of people that I trust, I’ve learnt you can’t please everyone. Be happy with the song yourself first and if you’re going to seek opinions make sure they are from a small circle of trust.

8. Whom’s opinion do you trust the most with new releases?

I can’t really put it all on one person for that, everyone’s opinion in my circle counts and I go to different people for different types of songs. I know some of my hard stuff will sit better with someone and my Future Bass tracks will sit better with someone else.

9. Is there anyone you would love to collaborate with?

I am a really huge RL Grime fan; I think our styles would mesh really well together.

10. Where can we find ‘Landing’?

You can find ‘Landing’ on my Sound cloud and YouTube pages. I’m giving it away as a free download.
