Interview: Top 10 tracks with Blank Page

Greg Newman AKA Blank Page is an Electronic Music Producer & DJ from London, England. After his debut release “Autumn” reached No.3 in the Trackitdown charts, and his follow up EP gained support from BBC Introducing. Influenced in the earlier days by the house scene in Sweden, and more recently by the exploding scene in the UK, Greg looks up to the likes of Steve Angello, Axwell, Sebastien Ingrosso, Mark Knight, Third Party, Tim Mason, Dusky & Bontan to name a few. Greg talks us through his top ten tracks below.

1. Kolsch – Cassiopeia

I very nearly left this out (by accident), and therefore it’s going first in my picks! I’m so glad I came across it in my iTunes. Stunning from Kolsch – and you wouldn’t expect anything else. A beautiful mix of strings, piano and electronic effects… His signature sound and this is the best of it in my opinion.

2. Hot Natured – Benediction

An absolute classic that goes off wherever it is played. Whether it’s a Progressive House, Tech House or Techno event, everyone loves this track. It’s hard to squeeze this into a set because of the vibes, but if you can, it’s so worth it.

3. Mark Knight & Funkagenda – Man With The Red Face

A classic House track this one. This track is so different with the saxophone leading the way in the breakdowns, and I think that’s what grabbed everyone. The combination of the usual electronic production along with the organic sax means is still goes off today in clubs.

4. George Fitzgerald feat. Boxed In – Full Circle

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQuCiLi5g50

The first George Fitzgerald song I ever heard and I’ve been following him ever since. The intro just grabs your ears straight away and brings you fully into the track. It has an incredible mix of synths, and has the strange ability to make you feel happy and sad at the same time.

5. Reflekt feat. Delline Bass – Need To Feel Loved

I think this track just shows everyone the power of strings. They provide such an epic vibe throughout this track and you can never tire of it. Adam K & Soha also did a nice re-edit of this but the original has to be the one that’s in here.

6. London Grammar – Hey Now (Arty Remix)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzo1_maqV_w

One of my favourite Progressive House tracks ever. A beautiful dance floor take on a beautiful track. The way Arty keeps the vocals and melody and turns this into a piece of pure Progressive House is genius. Goosebumps every time.

7. Swedish House Mafia – Leave The World Behind

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HMP36Jb0EM

From the guys that pioneered the Swedish sound, revolutionised that big sounding house music and made it accessible to the world. This track transformed my musical tastes. The first time I heard this I was obsessed with that vocal and piano hook and just thought “who the f*ck is this!” This track sent me down the path I’m on today.

8. Eric Prydz – Opus

www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRA82xLsb_w

I’ve just sat and listened to the full 9 minutes of this before I could write anything. It wouldn’t be a list of great tracks without something in it from this man, but Opus takes the biscuit. This track was, and is, so different to anything else that’s out there. It’s a musical masterpiece that just puts a smile on my face – and anyone else listening for that matter. I’ve had the privilege of seeing this played multiple times by the big man himself and I’ve NEVER seen a track go down as well time and time again.

9. Deadmua5 – Strobe

www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKi9Z-f6qX4

Another classic. This sort of cemented my love for Progressive House and sent me down the rabbit hole with deadmau5. I Have followed and admired him ever since. The way this blends a huge, synth-ridden, ambient intro into an initially stripped back 4×4 drop is just perfection.

10. Deadmau5 & Kaskade – I Remember

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUzVCw8BEXA

When Deadmau5 teamed up with Kaskade for this it was sure to be timeless. A beautiful chord progression and a stunning vocal on this one. Another great example of progressive house at its finest.
