Behind The Scenes Interview of ‘Pendulum’ With French Powerhouse Jickow

Jickow has blossomed in the industry ever since forging a name for himself in the South of France and over the years he has developed an inimitable knack for the production of music, where his knowledge and relationship with music has developed massively. His rich and authentic sound has since crossed borders which has given him the opportunity to improve his visibility in the dance music industry. As a testament to his hard work and dedication, he has worked with some figureheads in the industry such as Oxia, Pleasurekraft and Lee Van Dowski to curate their music and has since earned a title in Word Magazine as one of the ‘top 100 most influential people of the Belgian night’. With an unstoppable work ethic and the backing of a plethora of well know imprints, Jickow has definitely cemented his place in the industry with ‘Pendulum’, so we caught up with him to find out just how he did it.

Talk us through the inspiration that created ‘Pendulum’?

Pendulum is a try-out of the experimental process of music creation. I’m a spiritual guy, and I have a bunch of pendulums at home. I discussed the situation with friends and made a joke about using Pendulum for musical creation and created it while analysing Pendulum vibrations during the creation process.

What’s your favourite part of the track?

The dark atmosphere so far, I love playing with small pieces of sounds, lights synths & decorative ambiance. I try to push a dedicated sound design to each track.

Did you go into creating ‘Pendulum’ with a specific idea in your head or did it develop over time?

As explained earlier, no specific idea, just letting me lead by the pendulum movement.

Was there one lightbulb moment where you thought ‘this is going to be good’?

When I found the melody, the melody is the masterpiece in that track. I tortured the synth very hard to make it raw like that.

Who would you like to see support ‘Pendulum’?

To be honest, I never run behind the supports, I first try to produce a track I would love to play first, and then I hope that my taste is not so bad to involve DJs to play them.

How does ‘Pendulum’ compare to some of your other releases?

This one sound might be a bit less melodic; over the last year, the lockdown has pushed me to produce tracks more nostalgic and coloured melodies with hope and love in it, this one is a bit different – rawer.

How has your musical style developed over the past year?

I come from the minimal atmosphere of Berlin, the sounds from the 2000s especially from Bpitch & Kompakt helped to shape me as a DJ & producer, it is what I found again in the Techno melodic sound of 2020s.

What other projects are you working on at the moment?

I have around fifteen tracks ready to be released at that moment – on the other topics, I’m launching a side-project with my best friend called ‘Brthrs’ that is more house-oriented on a label called ‘What Matter Is Dance’.

Finally, are there any new projects in the pipeline you are working on at the moment?

On the release-side of things, I’ve got some big releases scheduled on Movement, Freegrant & Deep House Belgium. I have a series of Livestreams from Brussels’ most iconic places such as The Hotel rooftop for example.
