Clan Brude Shares a Mighty Mix Featuring His Favorite Tracks Of The Year

We bid farewell to 2022 in the best way we know how: with music. This time, Clan Brude has prepared a powerful mix of his Top 10 best songs of the year. Press play and get ready to welcome 2023!

1. Clan Brude – Lagos

This is the title track form my first EP which came out this month! The track is an ode to Lagos, Nigeria and features a narrative rather than a central hook. It’s heavy on the saw wave synths and builds into a club worthy groove.

2. Jamie XX – Let’s Do It Again (Radio Edit)

Sweet, straightforward track from Jamie XX with a Gospel-like vocal. I love the classic synth arp sound in the breakdown and the subsequent build. It’s interesting also how he keeps his kick sample low in the mix yet maintains the drive. This is in contrast with the two tacks either side with big kick sounds.

3. Jayda G, Aluna, Kevin Saunderson, Dantiez – Mine O’ Mine (Inner City Remix – Extended)

I’ve followed Jayda G for a while and have loved her piano-led House tracks. This is a deeper departure from those tracks as she collaborates here. I felt the extended Inner City version sat nicely in this mix as it integrates a powerful groove, infectious bass line and sweet vocal lead. Highly danceable.

4. Honey Dijon Feat. Sadie Walker, Channel Tres – Show Me Some Love

Honey Dijon! I already feel this is a classic. There is a driving hypnotic groove from the start and then the track builds into a Housey-Techno frenzy over lay with some laid-back vocals. The whole album is great in fact and worth checking, although probably already have.

5. Clan Brude – Where We Belong

I put this track out in the summer of this year. It was my first full length vocal track working with a very talented British singer. Through this track I got more interesting in sound design and you’ll hear various experiments with the pads on this track. I added a synth riff and overlay my guitar to complete it.

6. Clan Brude – Heart Racin’

This track was part of the same pot of ideas and experimentation as ‘Where We Belong’, hence they segue nicely into each other! This track centers more around a vocal hook and it is simply meant as a feel-good festival track (I created this around festival season). It features a big synth break and drop.

7. Eliza Rose – B.O.T.A (Baddest of Them All)

I somehow managed to shoehorn this track in as it is one of my favourites of the year despite the significantly increased BPM! My guess is that this will be the most well-known on the list. Not sure who wouldn’t love the kalimba lead and sweet vocals. Highly infectious and dreamy stuff.

8. Mau P – Drugs From Amsterdam (Original Mix)

Another shift in style here (and BPM!). The mischievous sentiment behind the track makes my smile, but mainly this a is banging track with excellent production in terms of what it wants to achieve. Dance floor filler.

9. Eli & Fur – Temptation

Going more ethereal now for this Anjunabeats release. It’s very accomplished track in terms of songwriting and production and manages to steer away from becoming cheesy due to the sound choices made. The brass bass, driving kick and organic glitchy vocal drone keeps it cool and more Anjuna-like.

10. Tim Green – Eastbound Silhouette (Original Mix)

Finish on a high! From Anjuna to All Day I Dream for a downtempo end to this mix. This is the title track from Tim Green’s 2022 EP. The track features super up-lifting beach vibes presented through a dreamy chord progression. I love the atmosphere created by the reverb-y vocal hook. It takes you on a journey and is the perfect way to sign off on the year with an air of optimism.
