Davi Hemann has been climbing his way through the ranks recently and after the successes of his latest remix of Myles Marcus’ ballad ‘Crazy’, the 18-year-old is showing no sign of slowing down. Influenced by a mixture of Martin Garrix, Avicii, Chic and Earth, Wind and Fire, any music he makes is bound to be a sure fan favourite. Below Davi talks us through his process and what advice he has for creating remixes.
What made you choose ‘Crazy’ to remix?
Myles and I started to talk on Instagram DMs and I asked him about making the remix, because I found the track amazing and I wanted to give my spin to it and he agreed!
What was your inspiration?
When I listened to it for the first time, I already felt that was something different. The vocals are so great that I loved the idea to just re-arrange the instruments in my way. I think what really inspired me was the idea of transforming a ballad song such as Crazy to a totally danceable track.
How do you approach remixes?
Usually, when a vocal catches my attention I see it as a sign of a “vulnerable” track to make a remix of. Also, when I hear a melody and instantly think about a completely different arrangement, I go straight to the studio to work it out.
What tips do you have for people who want to remix tracks?
If you already know the track you want to remix, just grab the vocals and don’t listen to the original song when producing. Just pretend a friend sent you the vocals and you have to make an instrumental for that. I believe that in this way, you don’t get influenced by the original one and coming out with unique stuff is easier.
How would you describe your version of this song?
My remix for Crazy is a danceable version of the song. It is definitely happier than the original because I wanted to break up the darkness of the track.
What is the one song you would love to do a remix of?
I think I would love to remix Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks because it’s a very rich track that deserves a modern EDM spin.
What is your favourite software to use?
Definitely FL Studio. It is so easy and the workflow is so quick that I don’t even think about switching.
When do you know a track is finished?
I never know hahaha! I am always adding little stuff to the mix but when I listen to the track 3 times straight
What label would you love to have a release on?
My life goal at the moment is to release a song in Spinnin’ Records.
