Interview: Behind the scenes of ‘Hole In My Soul’ with The Lab Wizard

The Lab Wizard Patrik Remann and Ronnie Hagstedt met back in 1993, 15 years later they reunited and The Lab Wizard was born. Originally from Sweden the duo have had huge success in the Scandinavian dance charts with several releases reaching top 3 positions. The Lab Wizard talk us through their latest track ‘Hole In My Soul’ below.

1. How would you describe ‘Hole In My Soul’ for those who haven’t heard it yet?

It’s a vocal House tune with some fresh elements. Great vocals from Ronnie as always! The song has a funky feeling over it so if you need a house tune with funk and a soul; this is the tune for you.

2. What’s your creative process?

I always start with the beat, then I add bassline and some instruments, the melody usually comes last. After I have a demo of the instrumental, I send it to a vocalist under the Alias “The Lab Wizard” its always Ronnie who does the vocals. When the vocal part comes back, I adjust the song accordingly so it’s a perfect fit.

3. Where do you go to draw inspiration?

I try to listen to a lot of music in different genres, and I also DJ a lot. This is my 32nd year as a DJ, so a lot of music influences have come by throughout the years.

4. What would be your dream studio set up?

A dream studio should be a studio that is easy to use; I want to be able to start a track in a few minutes when the inspiration comes to me, so I actually prefer to have a small studio at home to start all my songs.

5. How do you feel about sampling?

I did that more at the beginning of my career to make music, nowadays I’m not into it so much, but I think Tracklib is a great way to use samples and to pay to get the rights to use them.

6. Who would you love to collaborate with?

Darude! Sandstorm changed the whole scene.

7. What do you do outside of creating music?

I work as a DJ on the weekends and I work in HR in the Municipality of Linköping in Sweden Monday to Friday, and I also have my Label PR Records Label Group

8. How do you know a track is ready for release?

I always try the tracks I produce out in the clubs I play and see the audience’s reaction. That’s when I can tell if a track is going to be a hit.

9. What’s in store for 2019?

A lot of new tracks! I have a lot of collabs with different vocalists coming in 2019 so keep an eye out for them.

10. Where can people go to purchase ‘Hole In My Soul’?

I prefer Beatport, easy to use! You can find it here – www.beatport.com/release/hole-in-my-soul/2418813
