Interview: Behind the scenes of ‘Lunar Path’ with Mateo Paz

Mateo Paz has been making huge waves in the Progressive House scene with some big releases this year such as his ‘654’ remake and ever-growing weekly radio show ‘Gain’. Find out some behind the scenes info on his huge remix of Deng and Slavak’s hit ‘Lunar Path’ below.

1. How did you feel when Deng & Slavak approached you to remix their track?

I actually just really liked the track and decided to remix. I’m surprised the remix join top100 at Beatport!

2. What is your typical process for creating remixes?

I can’t say that I have a typical routine, but I can say that I’m always trying to get far away from original as possible, so I don’t listen to too much of the original track before I start remixing. When it comes to composing, sometimes I start with drums, and other times I start with the melody, it really depends on what comes to mind first.

3. Do you prefer making remixes or originals and why?

It’s hard to say! I like to make originals, however, I get so excited when I receive tracks to remix or remake. I love putting a new spin on things.

4. What is your favourite plugin to use when producing?

All of the Plugins from u-he! I love their emulation of an analogue sound.

5. What was the main inspiration behind your version of this track?

I’m really inspired by Argentinian music and progressive house scene there at the moment so I’ve tried to infuse that vibe into this track.

6. Do you have a piece of studio equipment that you can’t live without?

It has to be my computer, headphones and audio interface + plugins.

7. Do you have any top tips for creating fresh remixes?

I would say try to explore and create your own sound. Experiment and ask for feedback from your friends – that way you can be original and have a fresh sound.

8. ‘Lunar Path’ has been doing exceptionally well on the charts, how do you feel about that?

I’m so surprised that another one of my remixes has jumped to the top 100 Progressive charts and top 10 in the Hype chart. It’s inspiring me to continue doing what I’m doing and making great music.

9. Have you got any more releases on the horizon?

I have actually re-released my track Mine Alone that I made 2 years ago. However this release comes with 2 remixes by M0narch and a Gain mix (a special version for my weekly podcast). That’s out now on Microbios Records. I’m also working on new EP – more information will come soon!
